Meet the Student Teacher!

Hello Parents!

         My name is Laney Horn and I am a student teacher at Paine Intermediate this fall. I will be working with your child in Mrs. Walls’ class until December 6^th. For the duration of my time at Paine, I will work alongside Mrs. Walls’ and Mrs. Waites using best practices to ensure that your child gets a quality education. I am very excited about taking my ideas and learning how to implement them successfully in the elementary setting.

A Little About Me

I grew up in Oak Grove, Alabama. Throughout high school I played varsity softball, sang in a gospel quartet, and was class president. When I graduated I spent my freshman year at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. I soon transferred to UAB where I am now a senior. I am a double major in Early Childhood/Elementary Education and will graduate on December 14^th. I have worked with children of all ages from babysitting/nannying to the educational environment. I live in Trussville with my husband and my son who is about to be 3 years old.

I look forward to working with your child and appreciate the opportunity to do so. At any time throughout the semester please feel free to email me with any questions you may have concerning my involvement in the classroom.

Reading and Conduct Logs

Parents:

As we are all getting back into the swing of school, I wanted to remind you to please check your child’s reading and conduct logs.  Their conduct logs need to be signed each Friday (weekend) because we check these on Monday mornings.  Also, their reading logs only need to be signed each Friday and when your student finishes a book.  Your initials when they finish a book allow them to take an AR test as quickly as possible once they have finished.

Spelling Homework

Choose one of the following spelling activities to complete
each week and return by Friday:

 

Alphabetize words	Use the “stair-step” method to write the spelling words. (example: c ca cap	Write words 3 times each.
Write the words by coloring the alternating letters a different colors	Write words 2 times in cursive	Make a word search that includes all the words (www.puzzlemaker.com) and highlight the words in the puzzle.
Write the words and a definition for each one.	Create a crossword “puzzle” by writing words horizontally and vertically connecting them with a common letter.	Write a story using all of the spelling words.

Mighty Jackie - Vocabulary Words for the week of 9/3 - 9/6

legendary	Someone legendary is especially famous for something he or she did a long time ago.
muttered	If you muttered, you said something very quietly because you did not want to be heard.
gaped	If you gaped at something, you stared open-mouthed in surprise.
flinched	If a person  flinched, he or she quickly moved away from something dangerous or painful
snickering	Snickering at someone is like laughing quietly at them because they did something silly.
glared	If you glared at someone, you stared at them in an angry way.
stunned	When someone is stunned by something amazing, he or she is shocked and something even speechless.
fluke	A fluke is something unusual that happens by accident.
