Our Class Service Project

Thank you all for your kindness & generosity to our Family in need we adopted this holiday season!
Mr. Walls and I met the mother & great-grandmother of our Family the Saturday before Christmas! They continuously expressed their gratitude for all of your generosity! I know 3 children who had a very Merry Christmas thanks to all of you!

The money leftover from our Christmas party was used to help with a Habitat for Humanity- Home for the Holidays, a service project for one of Mrs. Walls college classes. The project was featured on ABC 33/40, and our class decorated the little girls bedroom. Our contribution was the Christmas tree & decorations to match her green & purple room. Mr. Walls and I set up her tree on Friday night before Christmas.

Electric Village Preparations

'Twas the week before Christmas & we'd all built a house.
Some were big, some where small, small enough even for a mouse.
The lights were hung by the front porch with care, in hopes that our knowledge of electricity soon we could share...!
The children were ready with brains in their head, a clubhouse to share & a speech to be read.
We hope you'll come join us and our fun you will share.
At Mrs. Walls class electric village, we hope to see you there!
Mrs. Waites class will present at 9:00, 9:15, 9:30 & 9:45 today!
Mrs. Walls class will present at 1:20, 1:35, 1:50 & 2:05 today!
We hope to see you here!

DreamBox

Thank you so much for your support with Dreambox so far this year! The kids are showing a lot of progress, and I appreciate the time you spend at home making sure that your child completes their 60 minutes each week.

For 2nd Trimester, we are going to grade Dreambox a little differently. Instead of a weekly grade based on the amount of time spent on Dreambox, I will be setting individual 2nd Trimester goals based on unique lessons completed with each of my students. This will work much like your child's AR goal and will be one grade towards their final math grade for 2nd Trimester. I will tell your child how many unique lessons they completed during the 1st Trimester, and we will set a goal based on that number for 2nd Trimester. (I will send this information home for you to review as well.) Students are still expected to complete 90 minutes of Dreambox each week (60 minutes at home and 30 minutes at school). Instead of the weekly grade, students will receive conduct checks for not completing 60 minutes at home each week. Please continue to let me know if you have internet/computer issues that interfere with your child completing their 60 minutes. I understand that some weeks are busier than others, so I will be forgiving if your child is short a few minutes here and there. They will only receive a conduct check if they are habitually short on their 60 minutes each week.

We have been asked to change the days that we check our Dreambox times so that all three grade levels are on the same page. Remember, a week in DreamBox starts over each Sunday morning through the following Saturday night. I apologize for any confusion that this may cause, but hopefully this will make it easier for parents with children in different grade levels.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and please look for your child's Dreambox goal to come home within the next couple of weeks.

Thank you for all that you do!

Jana Walls

Our Class Service Project

We hope you were able to enjoy the a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family! I know my family had more food than we could eat As we reflect on how fortunate and blessed we are, we would like to take time this season to give back to others in need.

Our class has chosen to donate to patients at Children's of Alabama and to a Family in need. Please see the link below for your student to donate to our class service project.

Thank you for all you do!

Electric Village

Dear Parents,
As a culminating activity for our electric circuit unit, we will be creating Menlo Park- Electric Winter Village! Please bring a shoebox without a lid wrapped in solid paper (red, green, white or brown craft paper suggested). Students may create their winter village house at home (see picture for example). Please bring houses in no later than Friday, December 13th.

Save the date! Our Electric Winter Village will take place Tuesday, December 17th. Please be on the lookout for times. We would LOVE for you to visit our electric village and see what we've learned! Thank you so much for your help!

Happy Holidays!
